eawholloway Posted March 4, 2021 Share #1 Posted March 4, 2021 Advertisement (gone after registration) The zoom ring on my 24-90mm lens has suddenly gone stiff and sticks at various positions. This causes the lens barrel to stick and hence the focal length does not change. I managed to get some movement by simultaneously turning the zoom ring and pulling on the end of the lens to change its length but there is clearly a mechanical problem in the lens body. Focusing is working fine. Anyone else had this problem? I have filled in a repair sheet on the Leica website but have received no response so far. Does anyone know if there is a UK telephone number in order to make contact with the repair department?
Advertisement Posted March 4, 2021 Posted March 4, 2021 Hi eawholloway, Take a look here Vario-Elmarit 24-90mm zoom lens problem. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Photoworks Posted March 4, 2021 Share #2 Posted March 4, 2021 Yes, I had the same issue. the issue is a loose screw inside. I am in the USA and Leica service here sends the lens in to Germany for repair. Apparently they only fix SL lenses in Germany. At the time I would have to wait many months to see a return. I have made the repair myself and I had no problem since then.

chris_tribble Posted March 5, 2021 Share #8 Posted March 5, 2021 Call 0207 629 1351 (option 2). Leica can offer a collect service. If the lens is still in warranty the costs should be covered. Any problems, I'd recommend contacting Liberty Seria at Leica Solms. You can find their contact information on line. There's a useful download here: file:///D:/__DATA/_PROGRAM_ARCHIVE/__Downloads/I.pdf Be aware that because of the disastrous Brexit decision made by our fellow citizens, all this takes more time than it used to 😠
eawholloway Posted March 5, 2021 Author Share #9 Posted March 5, 2021 Thank you. I will try the telephone number that you quote on Monday. I share your assessment with regard to the Brexit decision! eawholloway Posted April 27, 2021 Author Share #11 Posted April 27, 2021 Just to update on this issue, the lens was sent back to Leica, Germany at the beginning of April. I received an email from Leica UK today stating that the lens had been repaired, cleaned and calibration checked and was on its way back to the UK. Although the lens is 4 years old, Leica has carried this work free-of-charge as a gesture of goodwill. Well done Leica!!
