Though I normally enjoy your colours, this one I don’t like. I love her attitude, the pose, the image, but not the skintones. Especially in comparison to the image above this one.

no offense to you nor the model or lens used. It’s solely related to the profile used…

Thanks for your comment. The light was not optimal. That's usually why I try out different profiles in the first place. This Polariod profile was one of the ones I thought gave the best result this time.

After using both lenses, my feeling is that the v3 is the more balanced optical design, with the newer v4 lens having been over-optimised on the computer.

On the M8, the crop factor would help the 11714, leaving the good stuff and cutting out the corner funkiness.

So, a question, and without singling out you Frozen (sorry, but the comments pushed me to ask, that is all).

I am very fortunate to have a pair of 50 Summilux M's. One is the aspheric (E46 #11892), but not the close focus. The other is, and again I believe older pre-aspheric (E43) in titanium as part of a commemorative M6 and lens kit.

I have read this thread inside out, as well as most on the 50 Summilux's, and wonder if an average image taker like me would notice the difference, and if so, what, how.

I even wondered about setting up a subject (not sure what, portrait perhaps) and shooting some comparison images (with the M11-P or the SL2), at a variety of apertures. I'd even try the 50 Summilux R (E-55) I have, to see if there was a difference there, just because I can.

So, not a troll, a genuine question, and maybe it can generate some discussion and pointers for me to actually try this, unless someone else has already done this, in which case point me to it (please).

Jonathan Slack included some very good portrait examples in his review. I think this is where the new v4 11714 lens would be at its best, seeking subject distances that are mostly free from background and foreground distractions.

At the plane of focus the v3 and v4 they looked very similar to me. Background and foreground objects in environmental portraits and general compositions, are where the clearest differences are to be found.

Some context: I sold my 50 ASPH 11892 quite cheaply as the FLE helicoids were not smooth when focusing. The new 11714 has a wonderfully smooth focus action. Also I also wanted a brass and silver lens to match a silver MP ( my first silver lens ). However for travel use, at least with a film camera, I will still prefer the black v3 as it is lighter weight, outlining of the background adds character to the background context, and the foreground bokeh is smooth.

Have fun experimenting ... there must be a reason why ( only ) Leica users feel the need to own multiple 50mm lenses 😉

Many thanks for the kind comment. I find it really shines with 100-speed film, like TMax 100 and FP4+.
