Yes, I almost always do in general walk around scenarios for protection.

Well thats explains, I use a aftermarket lens hood on my Summilux otherwise it's like l'm an alien from space 😉

Something I want to add

1. On SL2-S dof preview still exists when you use mf and turn the focus ring.

2. Auto zoom focus assist really helps a lot on SL2-S. If your lens have electronic contact with the camera(not vintage or adapted from let's say m mount lens), it will actually zoom when turning focus ring in manual mode. Its also nice that you can disable the function. On the SL you ll to tap the joystick to manually zoom in, which means you need to take you right hand off the thumb support.

3. Plate mount lock pin is no longer there anymore. Which is a problem if someone have a SL battery grip or L bracket. However, I don't find it affect how well the rrs l plate fits.

4. Hot shoe is slightly higher, meaning the thumb grip is a little bit incompatible, but, with the better grip of the SL2-S, a thumb grip may not even be needed.

5. Jpeg noise reduction is a nice touch. It s something that SL do not have, you can also select the strength. It is very useful if you want to immediatly show someone your photo. With SL I m a little scared to show my friend zoomed in image at iso 3200 or above. Sometimes its just too noisy. Low light performance of SL2-S is just amazing.

6. I ve found SL2-S auto exposure is typically underexposed, more so than the SL, currently I m in progress of seeking leica support. I think it should be fixed soon.

And yes I do want gps back, and the strap lugs to be on the inside, and the lock pin. I also want my four button back, I just love 4 button layout. But honestly, using SL2-S for almost two months now, I barely notice those changes. It is so not impactful that you just forget about those really fast. And I have to admit, I now need to explain to my friend a lot less on how camera functions.

I don't know what you mean by this. When I turn the focus ring with an L-mount lens attached, the focus changes but the lens doesn't stop down to the shooting aperture.

Example:

I set my Summilux-SL 50 to f/1.4. The view through the EVF is extremely shallow DOF. If I set the same lens to f/12, I still see the same extremely shallow DOF. I keep the camera in MF mode, and I turn the focus ring. The focal plane moves in whichever direction I turn the ring, but the DOF stays extremely shallow at f/1.4.

What are you describing with DOF preview?

On the SL (601) you had an option to select an exposure preview that stopped the lens down to the shooting aperture so you could see the true DOF. Similarly, my Nikons had a button for DOF preview that accomplished the same. The SL2 and SL2-S have no such feature of which I am aware.

Ok, at first I thought dof preview is the back/focus/front distances on the top display in unit of meters. And indeed, if you stop down, you can see the dof increase (front number decrease and back number increase). 

But I see what you are saying. At SL 601 I only observe the dof preview not as expected is when I adapted a SLR lens onto the SL, other than that it will show the right dof. I don't currently have SL anymore but I just tested SL2-S and I can confirm it indeed will show only the shallow dof from probably the max aperture. Also, I tried sigma 35mm f1.2 dg dn and use the aperture ring to manually set it to f11 and it still shows shallow dof in the preview. Interesting, I didn't notice. I think from the firmware side this needs to be improved.
