andrew00 Posted February 15, 2021 Share #1 Posted February 15, 2021 Advertisement (gone after registration) Heya, I'm been considering switching up from an M9+28mm to a Q/Q2 and would appreciate some thoughts please. My main reason is my eyes aren't great and I the M9 can give me eye strain and makes it a little hard to focus, so I'm looking at the Q/Q2. I think things like resolution would be fine either way, my main concern is the EVF. I'd like an EVF that a) doesn't cause eye strain by being 'low' quality and b) is of sufficient high quality to make the overall shooting experience pleasant. I.e. I don't want to be feeling like it's a drag to use. I've tried the Q2 in a Leica store a while back and I really liked it so I know it's 'good enough'. I've not tried a Q, and so I'm wondering if it will be good enough also - or not. As above, there's a minimum level I'm looking to reach with the EVF, so it doesn't cause eye strain, and is sufficient pleasant to use. Can anyone with experience please offer their suggestions about the EVFs in both cameras, will the Q also be fine, or is the Q2 really where I should be looking? Thanks for any thoughts! Advertisement Posted February 15, 2021 Posted February 15, 2021 Hi andrew00, Take a look here Question about the EVF's in the Q vs Q2. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
HighlandK Posted February 15, 2021 Share #2 Posted February 15, 2021 I find this very difficult to offer advice. I have the Q2 and previously the Q. I don’t have the different specs to hand but when moving from the Q to Q2 I don’t recall saying to myself, wow this is so much better. I had no problems with the Q EVF and my eyes are not the finest being three quarters of a century old. However, this is a difficult area to comment on as everyone’s sight is different and the cause of eyestrain can vary.. Having borrowed an M I quickly realised my eyesight couldn’t handle the manual focus. Thus the advantage of the Q was really all about autofocus and the enlarged view with peaking when using manual focus rather than the quality of the EVF which was perfectly adequate. But as they say, your mileage may differ.
LexS Posted February 20, 2021 Share #3 Posted February 20, 2021 I have the same answer as HighlandK, except that I am older and I do not have a hat. I have the Q.
wda Posted February 21, 2021 Share #4 Posted February 21, 2021 I am also older and saw no reason to replace my Q original. Apart from superb autofocus, I can manually focus my Q, with ease, aided by excellent focus peaking and image magnification. In fact, the OP might enjoy the manual focusing experience.
