roverover Posted February 10, 2021 Share #1 Posted February 10, 2021 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) My new Q2 finally arrived today. I had waited quite sometieme for this camera and am very happy with it except for the immediate discovery that a short, tiny hairline scratch OR or some kind of hair-like foreign object made it's way onto or into the EVF during assembly. I am leaning towards feeling it's a minuscule scratch. I did a close up inspection, it's not on the outside of the EVF and it's NOT on the Lens or the Sensor. I can see it when I am looking through the EVF to compose a shot and after I take an image, it's visible when the photo is viewed through the EVF too. So I have determined it's Not on the lens or sensor and the image is clean when viewed on my computer. Curious, I've read some "dust on my Q2 sensor" posts, but haven't found any that discuss dust or a scratch inside the EVF. Have most of these cameras come through with a clean EVF? I may be able to live with it although it could also become annoying as it's easily visible every time I look through the EVF, with these being hard to get right now, I am reticent about returning it and I don't want to send it in for repair either, same effect, I won't have the camera for sometime to come. Advertisement Posted February 10, 2021 Posted February 10, 2021 Hi roverover, Take a look here New Q2, EVF issue. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Miltz Posted February 10, 2021 Share #2 Posted February 10, 2021 I'm sorry to hear of your issue. I received a Leica Q2 that has a black spot or dirt inside the viewfinder. It wasn't something I was willing to accept so I returned it. I'm actually surprised this stuff is still happening. For the life of me I don't understand why they don't look through the viewfinder before boxing it up...
Leica Guy Posted February 10, 2021 Share #3 Posted February 10, 2021 I would return immediately for a new replacement. Think for one minute about selling it. It would be a defect that would reduce the value of the camera. Return it.
roverover Posted February 10, 2021 Author Share #4 Posted February 10, 2021 I assume Leica has serious Quality Control protocols, but things do still happen and it is disappointing to experience, as we all know. Thank for the comments. I am considering returning it and waiting yet again for a replacement which may equal the time it would take to send this one off and have Leica in NJ take care of it. I would eventually want it handled, so it's either wait again now or send it in for a warranty repair later. It's a great camera and I am excited to use it. I am thinking about options and waiting for the Vendor to call me back and tell me if they might have a replacement, although I doubt it as there has been a long wait to get these for various reasons. It will get worked out and I'm grateful to have other cameras to use now too.

Certainly one that is not already promised to someone. You paid a lot of money and received a defective product. Not their fault, but if within 14 days it should be treated as defective upon arrival and immediately replaced.

I was able to get in touch with the vendor yesterday and they are attempting to get me a replacement. They haven't got one currently, but they are promising to put my "replacement" request at the top of the list of he next batch, which could be helpful and my translate into a short wait time. Thanks to all for your replies and sharing your opinions.
Alexia Posted February 12, 2021 Share #7 Posted February 12, 2021 Advertisement (gone after registration) If it's helpful, I got a ball park estimate by phone from New Jersey of $280 parts and labor for my Q. The customer service rep (Kathy Carbone) was fantastic.
