After the P2 and the more capable Tipo B, also referred to as the P3, Enzo Ferrari needed a faster, more powerful grand prix car to take on the dominant, state sponsored 'Silver Arrows'. After a brief experimentation with the ungainly twin-engined Bimotore, Enzo asked Vittorio Jano, Alfa's racing engineer, to design a grand prix racer to take on the Germans. The result in 1935 was the 8C Monoposto. It was the first all-independently sprung, aerodynamically designed Alfa, transmitting power to the swing axle-suspended rear wheels via a 4-speed transaxle.

A total of 8 were produced, with the car shown scoring several non grand prix victories in the capable hands of Nuvolari, Dreyfus and Farina.. After its  time as a 'Scuderia Ferrari' team car, it wound up in Harry Miller's shop where the motor was reduced to 3.0 liter capacity for racing in the U.S. Vanderbilt Cup and Indianpolis 500 races.

A beautiful, historic,  innovative car, and one of the few 'Titan Era' originals still competing.

The double trailing-arm front suspension....more art than mere mechanical object.

Another view of the car in uncluttered surroundings...easier to appreciate the effort to give the car a more streamlined shape and manage airflow. Please note oil cooler mounted ahead of rear wheel - there are two, one on each side.
