Jamie Roberts Posted August 23, 2007 Share #1 Posted August 23, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hey folks, I know there are lots of places where you can see great photography, and I wouldn't mention my blog usually. But I will now: I'm putting a little bi-monthly or so exhibit of work monochrome work with the M8. "10 shots in black and white" and I'm asking different folks to do this. Note this doesn't supercede the photo forums or any of the other Leica venues. It's a purely personal thing I feel like doing after seeing so much wonderful photography out there. So I'm happy to announce that the first set of M8 BW photos I've got there are Johannes Borger's (fantastic stuff). James H (Jamie) Roberts Though it's not on my blog, he says this about his workflow and lens choices, which I find fascinating, and thought was appropriate for this audience: He says " I work with a complete B&W wokfkow, shoot raw + jpeg and set the saturation to B&W so I can review in B&W. "I convert with C1 and the JFI labs profiles or go with the raws immediately into CS3 and use Alien Skin Exposure for B&W conversion. I work the tonality with curves ... sometimes dodge & burn. "For B&W I use the M8 permanently at Iso 640 ..... it ads a bit of structure to the files, making them look less clinical/ sterile. "The lenses I use most are 35 & 50mm with the 15 CV recently added .. there are quite a few pictures with them in the batch. "I use a combination of vintage and modern lenses: - 35m summaron/ 3,5 LTM (1950) - Canon 35mm/ 2,8 (1950) - 35 Summicron pre-asph (type IV) - 35 Summicron asph - 50mm summilux asph - 50mm rigid summicron (1957) "For the occasional posed portrait or concert picture i sometimes use a 75mm summilux or 90mm Macro Elmar. "The pictures in the batch I sent you were taken with the following lenses... JA = 35 summicron asph JB = Canon 35/ 2,8 serenar JC, JE, JG, JH, JK = CV 15mm Heliar JD, JL = 50mm Rigid summicron JF = 35mm summicon pre-asph (type IV)" Hope you enjoy this! Jamie Roberts Posted August 24, 2007 Author Share #4 Posted August 24, 2007 Yes, his work is really interesting. I think the lens choices are fascinating too. As always when I see really good BWs, I want to see them printed. LOL! But this will have to do for now. Thanks for having a look!

Jamie Roberts Posted August 24, 2007 Author Share #6 Posted August 24, 2007 Riccis-- Thanks for the comment (on the blog) and for your question! I'm hoping to do this every two or three months...(you know how it is in the summertime!) but of course that will on the genorosity of the people asked to participate. There is so much great stuff out there! As you can tell, Han was very generous and willing to have this little showcase, and I hope others will be too; I'll always post the shooting data too when folks supply it, but probably more "here" as opposed to there, if you catch my drift!
