To some, this may seem like heresy. However, here goes.

Using "programme" mode you are able to adjust the settings, recommended by the camera, to suit your shooting circumstances (i.e. You might need a faster shutter speed whilst shooting motor racing), It seems to me that the camera produces excellent results when using the "P" mode.

Does anyone else use programme mode as their primary mode? I know that there are many circumstances when manual mode is the best solution. However, I'd be intrigued to hear from others.

Sure. I use it if I am trying to work more quickly and am in good light. I do use program shift or EV compensation as needed. It is really no different than any other mode if you are the driver's seat. It is reasonably "smart", in that it knows the lens and focal length and tends towards keeping the aperture in the sharpest spot for the given exposure index, and it tends to favor keeping the shutter speed higher and the aperture wider, which is a good decision in a lot of cases given how sharp the SL lenses are. Just another tool in the tool box. The key point is that it is doing what you want. If it is not, then yes, of course use manual.
