dvdmon Posted August 23, 2007 Share #1 Â Posted August 23, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Well, I've decided to get a D-LUX 3. We have a freind who works at a camera store and so can get it for us for about $540 with tax. Makes me feel a little better about the premium over other compacts. Â Anyway, I've just bought a 8GB SDHC card (PNY Class 4) for $70 from Amazon. Hopefully it will prove to be a reasonably fast card. I tried to look for speed comparisons, but just couldn't find any for 8GB cards. I guess they are too new? Plus I got an el cheapo SDHC card reader off of eBay. Â Now, I need to know what other accessories I should get. I've always gotten at least one extra battery for my cameras, and am wondering whether I should get the Leica-branded one for $55 on Amazon or get a generic one off of eBay. There seem to be a lot of people selling a bunch of stuff (extra charger, car charger and 2 batteries) for under $20 including shipping! Has anyone here purchased something like this and what's your experience been? I'm a little leery to trust such a pricey camera to these things... Â I would also like to get a screen protector for the LCD. Any out there know of a good one? I'd prefer not to have to cut my own. Â Any other accessories I should be aware of? Â Thanks! sanqhar Posted August 23, 2007 Share #2  Posted August 23, 2007 Bad news I'm afraid  Page 18 of the manual (which if you don't have the camera then you haven't seen yet) says:  SD Memory Card (8MB to 2GB)  SDHC Memory Card (4 GB)  8GB SDHC is not mentioned.  tom

bernd_muc Posted August 24, 2007 Share #4  Posted August 24, 2007 Bad news I'm afraid Page 18 of the manual (which if you don't have the camera then you haven't seen yet) says:  SD Memory Card (8MB to 2GB)  SDHC Memory Card (4 GB)  8GB SDHC is not mentioned. Probably there were no 8GB cards available at the time of writing the manual, so they couldn't test it. However, if Panasonic followed the SDHC specs, there is no reason why higher capacity cards shouldn't work. There will soon be 32GB SDHC cards available... anybody wanna try?  Bernd

I'm hoping that by the time I get the camera on Wednesday i will have it memorized and won't need to be futzing with it and can just start taking lots of photos (I'm one of those odd people who like to read manuals before using equipment in a lot of cases). Â I keep a shortcut to the .pdf of my D-Lux 3's user's manual in my dock and it makes for an easy and super-useful reference. There's a lot of depth to this little camera!
