Macberg Posted January 12, 2021 Share #2 Posted January 12, 2021 You won't regret it - believe me. But be careful, I got Leica-addicted after my first Q(1), now I have a couple more Leicas...😉
4peterse Posted January 12, 2021 Share #3 Posted January 12, 2021 I think if you are happy with Nikon you shouldn't invest in Leica. It's completely different – and I'm not talking about the shutter speed dial or aperture ring. Compared to Nikon, Leica is an amateurish toy camera; at least the Q series. The SL series seems to be better. What I mean is, that Leica constantly screws up the firmware to a point that it is almost unusable for me (as a left eyed shooter). Leica often claims that it's focusing on the essentials. Like, you don't need to dig through menus to change some simple setting. But that's not true. Want to change exposure bracketing? Menu. Want to change self timer? Menu. etc. etc. The camera body has only few buttons and with this only limited direct control. And there is more. It's awkward that you can't change the aperture once you half press the shutter (lock AF). You can't disable long-exposure noise reduction. And more. Battery life is very limited, spare batteries are very expensive. Overall operation is relatively slow (turning on the camera takes maybe 1 second; not sure if the Z is faster). That said, it's a versatile camera, and it's small. It has a somewhat usable macro lens, and the non-macro mode is almost excellent (not perfect for astro photography, but the camera isn't made for that anyways). Image quality is, with the exception of high ISO, pretty decent. So, if you don't replace your Nikon, it is certainly a good camera, that will be good for travel. But then again, you have a X100V and GR III … I don't know if the Q2 will be revolutionary.
Ronaldraw Posted January 12, 2021 Author Share #4 Posted January 12, 2021 Thank your your objective and extensive review. The Q2 is not meant to replace my Nikon, maybe earlier to my Fuijflim and Ricoh. Im still considering for now
