Hello everyone,

currently I am looking for a fast 35mm lens and a Voigtländer 35mm 1.2 II has come to my attention. I found a nice one in great condition with box, papers and hood for a reasonable price. But there are odd white spots at the edge of one of the first elements. Could this be beginning corrosion? Or some issue with lens bonding cement? Or is this common for version II of the lens? Any owners of that specific lens here?

Thank you!

Look up 'Schneideritis' which is what it looks like to me . Basically this is the flaking of black paint on the edges of lens elements and is cosmetic rather than anything else. It might give rise to marginally increased flare, perhaps, maybe. It is also possible that its not flaking but might not have been originally painted perfectly. The only other thing that can cause this is an impact which has caused damage to the edges of elements but generally such impacts leave other damage such as uneven focussing with tight spots, and physical damage. I'd go with 'Schneideritis' though, and if so it can reduce value by a small amount.
