Are the Hasselblad HC lenses with the Leica S-Adapter H on S2 bodies recommended? Especially the 80mm f2.8 HC lens. Could this be an alternative to the native Leica 70mm f2.5?

Please point me to any older thread on this topic if there is one..

I would like to know the best performing Hasselblad lenses on S2 bodies with the S-Adapter H

Adapters are good options for lenses that Leica doesn't offer (like anything above 180mm, or bellows/macro), or for lenses that you already own, or for special lenses (the Hasselblad/Zeiss 110/2.0 Planar, in my case).

I started my S adventure with just the 70, and adapted lenses for shorter/longer. What that taught me is how much better the Leica S lenses are. It was almost impossible to mix "legacy lens" shots with S-glass shots. The only way was by un-sharpening and de-saturating the S glass, which defeats the purpose.

I still use the Zeiss 110, because it has a classic look, and I occasionally use enlarging lenses on a bellows, but that's it. You may as well skip the extra expense of the adapters and put that money toward Leica lenses.

The HC lenses work well. I can from my own experience recommend the 2.2/100. Leaf shutter works as well. AF works well when using the optical finder. It does not work if live view is used (just like the Contax 645 lenses).

I'm assuming that Live View is for the 007 ?

Live view works also on the 007, but not AF in Live view with Contax and HC lenses.

with the Contax and HC lenses adapted would focus peaking work in live view on the 007 (S3)

Focus peaking works. It should work with all adapters. My five cents: FP is overrated. If I have enough time and on a tripod, I use the loupe. If I don't have the time, I use the optical and AF.

It seems best for video where you need to quickly get to an area that is acceptably sharp and your reproduction ratio is not that high. In my experience, it is not accurate enough for stills, at least if you are prioritizing larger prints...

Even for video it isn't considered accurate. Focus peaking is there to provide some confidence that the focus hasn't been knocked-around accidentally. You still need to punch-in to 1:1 to double check.

I think the feature dates back to 2/3" ENG (electronic news gathering) cameras. It's good enough for a news piece shot in bright light with a relatively slow lens, later to be displayed on consumer PAL or NTSC TVs.
