I know, kind of silly as the S5 is the next generation and has OIS

But I had the S1, which is lovely, but wanted something lighter but just as well made

A new S5 is a few £100 cheaper then a second hand SL in the UK

I will be using Sigma lenses and perhaps a panasonic or two. I would like to get the Leica 50mm, but not sure I will be able to afford it

Things I am worrying about with the S5:

1. Shutter noise - how does this compare to the SL

2. Does it have AA filter ? I know SL doesn't

3. As SL sensor is optimised for M lenses, it also means filter glasses are thinner then the BSI on the S5. This does effect acuity in my experience

For most people the S5 is kind of a no-brainer (I am just alternative ;) ), I guess plus point of the S5 vs SL:

4. Size, although I love the SL look, and the dials and buttons on the SL I think are nicer

5. Better AF ?

6. OIS

I do like the S5 and Panasonic generally

What do you guys think ? Anyone had both ?

I wouldn't get the S5 for M lenses or if you are an HSP person. The shutter sound will drive you nuts (as it will on an α7III).

thanks

I wont really be using M lenses on it, so thats not an issue

I have used a ARii, Aii and ARiii alot. Sony shutters are the loudest, but I end up using the electronic shutter on the ARiii most of the time, its quite good

Is the S5 really as loud as the A7iii ?

It's equally loud, I'd say, with a noise sort of like the M9. In a church, museum, people notice. I becomes a bit embarrassing. You have to take your shots quickly and get out of there - or use the electronic shutter only.

someone mentioned to me that the S5 doesn't have an electronic first curtain shutter, is that true ?

Is the shutter different than the S1? I find the shutter on the S1 very quiet. Perhaps it is the heavier body that calms it down. That said, I used to work with a Rollei 6008, which had a mirror loud enough that I had to warn people when I took their portrait, as it would make them jump.
