Hi,
I dropped my M Monochrom (M9M) solidly on the ground 😖. The vertical alignment is off, way off. Horizontal might be OK, still.
So I am now looking for options to have it repaired in Norway - or is a self-repair worth an attempt given Norwegian prices and potential waiting times?

Bummer. I would have a qualified professional, Leica or third party, look it over to ensure everything is working properly, including lens if it was affected.

Hi Jeff, thanks! Lens is unaffected. The body flew off the lens (it was not attached 100%)....

You can try to contact Fotocare, which handles service and repairs of Leica in Norway. But they probably have to forward it to Leica in Germany.

You can also deliver your camera to your nearest Japan Photo store, which can forward it to Germany via Lauritsen Result service partner. I just did that with my M10, and got it back after about 9 weeks.

If you are just on vacation in Norway, this is probably too long, I guess.

Even though some forum folks are proficient at DIY, Sherry Krauter, who is a well respected US Leica repair specialist, does not work on digital Ms due to the prohibitively expensive equipment needed to ensure close tolerances.  Just saying.

Takk!
I asked them already, and yes, it needs to go to Germany. I live in Norway, so I can sit it out, and I have an X1 that has saved me already a few times before when Ms needed repair. Still, the Monochrom is special. Oh well, 1st-world problem and life goes on!

My only experience has been with horizontal adjustment using the instruction on this forum.  It was relatively quick, very easy, and accurate.  Done several bodies so far.

There are also instructions on this site for vertical adjustment and, given my previous experience, I'd probably give it a try myself.

Fixed it myself...grinded down a tool until fit (Biltema - the Norwegians will know) and that was that. Horizontal focusing may need a bit of fine-tuning, but close distances seem spot-on.
