<Compatibility of Leica M10 and TOUGH series SDXC card>

Recommended Posts

Oh wow! Yeah, the Tough cards are an absolute no in the M10M. Camera won't even turn off. Can't format the card in-camera. Doesn't write images to the card.

These have been great in the SL2, but a real no in the M10M.

Thanks for testing. It makes sense since the M10M and M10R are the same hardware (and probably very similar firmware) since they share a sensor.

When I used the Sony TOUGH series SDXC cards 128GB (SF-G128T) and 64GB (SF-G64T) for the Leica M10-R, symptoms such as format errors and slow writing occurred. When I contacted the Leica Store, I heard that there were some similar reports. There was no problem with the Leica SL2!
The same phenomenon was seen with the M10-P, so it may be safer not to use it unless the firmware version is upgraded.
* In addition, Leica Camera Japan is verifying the operation of SanDisk Japan and memory cards. The answer was that the Sandisk Extreme PRO series was fine.

Can't comment on this, but I use Lexar cards and have never had an issue M9-M240-M10. I also used Transcend and never had an issue.

Most of the newer SD cards are designed for video performance and high frame rates of newer cameras. I don’t think one should experiment very fast cards on an M with its limited buffer. I am quite happy with my mid-performance SanDisk and Lexar cards.

Be very careful using these cards with the original Leica Q.

I used 2 x Sony Tough 128Gb (model SF-M128T) and experienced huge issues with trying to get my files off the cards. It was for a high profile job so it was a frightening experience and I ended up having to spend close to 8 hours dragging and dropping each raw file one at a time on to my hard drive from where I could import into C1.

This happened on 2 cards so it is not that one card was corrupted. It seems to be an incompatibility between the Leica Q and the Sony Tough cards.

You will think everything is fine until you try to get your files off, at which point the cards start to behave erratically  and you may risk losing all your files.

Note: I bought these cards for video use in my GH5 cameras & EVA and they performed without any problems in those devices.

The list is commercially biased and suggests that the most expensive is the best.  I'm very sceptical and wouldn't buy into the advice.   In fact, I don't think that such advice should appear on the board.

I'm disappointed to see such biased and unsubstantiated advice on the Leica User Forum.

The list is indeed very un-informative. It gives no clue. It does have embedded link probably for a cash-back for the forum from Amazon etc.
