The bird taking off is a larus marinus heading for it's first winter (the beak is still completely black, the feathers are brown).

The lake in the middle of the city (this is the smaller part) is actually the Alster river, the result of a dam built in 1190 and flooding a bit more than expected. It was left this way, since it looks sort of nice and allows sailing in the centre of the city.

Concerning architecture, starting from the left:

2nd building with two flags: Gutruf-Haus (initially a jeweller now an Apple-store), Franz Bach 1914-1915

4th house, green roof, two flags: Alsterhaus (department store), Cremer & Wolffenstein 1911-1912

Red house with green roof, one flag: Hamburger Hof (shopping mall) Bernhard Hanssen und Emil Meerwein 1881–1883

Next to the right: Heine-Haus Ricardo Bahre and Carl Querfeld 1903; Ockelmann, Rottgardt & Partner 2002

Next to the right, white building: Streit's-Haus (sic); unknown architect circa 1838; AMS Architekten 2013-2016

High-rise building with green windows: Former Unilever-Haus (now Emporio); Helmut Hentrich and Hubert Petschnigg 1961-1964; HPP Architekten 2009-2012

Brown house to the right: Prien-Haus; Erich Elingius, Gottfried Schramm and Hermann Höger 1935-1936

Large white building, one flag: Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten (unknown architect, several times re-built and annexes added) 1905

Behind: Heinrich-Hertz broadcasting tower, Fritz Trautwein and Rafael Behn 1966-68.

The brown house to the right is the former Esso-Haus and now houses the library of the institute for economic research. I couldn't find the architect for this one either.

The high-rise building in the back is the CCH hotel, Jost Schramm and Gert Pempelfort 1970-1973

To the right with the red-golden Finnish coat of arms it the Finnlandhaus. The whole building is hanging from a central column. Helmut Hentrich und Hubert Petschnigg 1963-1966; HPP-Architekten 2017

It seems I sometimes forget to press the reply button after I write, so I'll repeat from days ago.....Thanks for posting this nice photo. You are to be commended for taking the time and energy to describe the scene, the history of the buildings, and most of all for crediting the architects. And a bonus for the bird!

regards, Wally
