I had a bit of fun this afternoon. Some sample shots taken with L1 and 400mm Telyt. It seems to work well and the focus confirmation. I believe the Green Leaves (dang weeds) shot is at speed 500, asa 200 and the the "Warning" is at speed 250, asa 200.

I just resized and upload... lets see if my uploading works :) ... Man have to rezise like crazy :)

Bo and Richard... THX for looking.

I am using the Leica Adaptor 18628. Cost way too much $250. Heard that some cheaper ones works just as good... I bought the Leica adaptor thinking that it would help in focusing... distance between lens and sensor/film is so critical. It may have helped, but I have no way of knowing. maybe other can help in this.

I mainly use it with Manual focus, Aperture Priority and/or Manual metering. The Focus confirmation does work with the leica lens, but since the DOF is much less with the Leica lens, the focus confirmation light comes on and off really fast, but you will soon get use to it. 400 Telyt has the sliding focusing mechanism is ectremely accurate and it works better with focus confirmation. But shooting @800mm and f6.8 is still hard... shallow DOF. I have a f1.4 lens... Hit and miss @1.4... need getting use to.

The focus and meter works with working aperture, after f8 it starts getting dark and harder to focus. It is a Leica lens.. shoot wide open as much as possible :)

Only with an external focussing system like a rangefinder or guess-focus. With a WYSIWYG system like an SLR only the mirror box's accuracy is critical.

Doug.. Thx for correcting my mistake. I learn something new everyday.... and when I do, it is a good day :)

I guess my mistake stems from being mainly an RF user and a discussion in the old Leica forum about Canon DLSR being the most compatible with Leica lens because by adding an adaptor, we are increaing the distance of the lens from the sensor. The Canon DSLR is slightly slimmer than the other DSLR and making the Canon the best alternative to the DMR.

What you said about the accuracy for the Mirror Box makes more sense, coz' what you see may NOT be what you get IF the Mirror Box is not accurate. Interesting. I am still having focus issue, through the VF... it looks perfect, but the result is soft. Even with my 80-200 f4. But with the 400/Telyt, I am spot on. I may need one of those eye piece attachment to help me focus.

Thx... Robert
