Flight959 Posted November 4, 2020 Share #1 Posted November 4, 2020 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, Hope everyone is keeping safe. I went out this afternoon with my Monochrom MK1. I had a go at shooting some long exposures. I noticed this evening whilst processing my photos several clusters whilst zoomed in of these dots. initially I thought it was dust. They have a dark center then a circular lighter area then a lighter halo.... is this corrosion. Apologies...its a photo taken of my laptop screen... Welcome, dear visitor! IMG_20201104_190555 by Simon Clarkson, on Flickr After buying the camera (no reason other than piece of mind) I contacted Leica with the serial number to enquire if the sensor had been replaced. Jimmy at Leica Mayfair confirmed that in July 2017 the camera had a replacement Sensor with the later cover glass which was not subject to delamination. Do I have an issue?? Or is this moisture dots or dust.. I was shooting at F22 so its the first time ive seen it. Advertisement Posted November 4, 2020 Posted November 4, 2020 Hi Flight959, Take a look here Corrosion?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
BrianS Posted November 4, 2020 Share #2 Posted November 4, 2020 You are at 400% magnification. This is more likely Dust. Try cleaning the sensor, use a blower, or wet clean. The corrosion spots on my sensor were big enough to be seen using the LCD screen on the camera alone. I had it replaced under warranty several years ago, with the new sensor. digger1914 Posted November 5, 2020 Share #3 Posted November 5, 2020 As an example, this is how my M9 looked when it got corrosion and was replaced Welcome, dear visitor! I had a similar spot develop on the sensor of my MM about a year after the original sensor corroded and was replaced with the new version. I thought it was corrosion in the new sensor (which would have been very disappointing), and sent it in to Leica NJ. They determined that it was just a dirty sensor, cleaned it and returned it to me. Regards Simon Flight959 Simon- Difficult to tell from the image you've posted, it's easier to determine at 100% magnification. However I really doubt that it's corrosion, there have been no reported events with the vers.2 cover glass. I've had sensor corrosion on both my M9 & Monochrom, twice with each camera. Leica replaced the the cover glass with vers.1 both times on both cameras and the sensors corroded again. This was in mid-2015, the vers.2 cover glass was introduced in about Oct. 2015. This is what my Monchrom sensor looked like @ 100% -The yellow circles are dust and the red corrosion. Welcome, dear visitor! Flight959 Posted November 5, 2020 Author Share #6 Posted November 5, 2020 Thanks for the replies. The sensor was last cleaned earlier this year by Leica. I'll ask them to clean and check for me. Regards Simon.
