bcapphoto Posted October 22, 2020 Share #1 Posted October 22, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) Just got my Leica Monochrom (M246) yesterday. Quick question. I know the M240 had two different manufacturers for the LCD screen - the later versions being warmer and the earlier ones being cooler. My M246 has a bit of a warm tint - almost like sepia - even in the menus. My M240, when I shoot B&W is always a true B&W. Is this normal?
Advertisement Posted October 22, 2020 Posted October 22, 2020 Hi bcapphoto, Take a look here M246 warm screen. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
mmradman Posted October 22, 2020 Share #2 Posted October 22, 2020 (edited) I wouldn’t obsess much about tint from the rear screen on the Monochrom camera (any model), by your reasoning your camera/LCD are recent. Worth perhaps reminding ourselves that sensor output is true Mono as there is no CFA (aka Bayer) on top of the sensor. The EVF on the other hand is stock item without difference between colour and mono versions, tinting is possibility. Perhaps reason why some people prefer their digital M without rear LCD. Oh yea - I'm not worried. I was more just curious. On my M240, the B&Ws are crisp, sharp and proper B&W. Looking at them (if/when I chimp), they look amazing and - for some reason - inspire me to keep shooting. But the M246 screen is warm and almost mushy looking. They look way better when offloaded, obviously, but I don't have that initial "wow" feeling on the back of the screen. No big deal, but was just curious.
