sergiomarried Posted October 17, 2020 Share #1 Posted October 17, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) Ever since I got my used M10 I saw that it came with some minor scratches in the external front viewfinder window. They don't have any impact operationally or in terms of perfect functionality since they are totally invisible to me, never saw a thing... I always wondered though if these are normal over time to have or what kind of potential repair they might have in the future if anything... Is it easy? is it expensive? Is it even needed? Just curiosity... At the same time, I've been getting some slight wear on the bottom of back screen, resulting in some of the black paint or material being removed and exposing an aluminium or whatever the material might be... Is it normal? Do you try to protect this somehow? I couldn't care less about these things but they might be relevant when trying to resell this beauty after (hopefully) years of good service... Thanks a lot in advanced and regards from Spain Sergio

lohthx1r Posted October 17, 2020 Share #2 Posted October 17, 2020 The scratches of the bottom of the screen happened on my SL2 as well. Seems like a common problem.
rramesh Posted October 17, 2020 Share #3 Posted October 17, 2020 The M is a camera and it is meant to be used over it's life span of about 10 years. This means that it will acquire wear. Scratches, rub marks, small dings, are par for the course. After a few, you will learn to live with them. If you don't want to see this, get a case to cover it up. Luigi is one vendor that sells cases with a back flap that hides the CD screen. You can always get it repaired for a price. Then you will be back to (1).
sergiomarried Posted October 17, 2020 Author Share #4 Posted October 17, 2020 I’m just curious about experiences from other users over time and potential future solutions. I could not care less myself for my own use, as long as functionality is not affected... I hate cases by the way, not my thing...
easy_action Posted October 17, 2020 Share #5 Posted October 17, 2020 My M10 was worn along the bottom of the screen exposing metal, just as you describe - the same wear also on the exposed edge around the 4-way controller. It came to me this way, so I can't say how it had been treated previously.
coupdefoudre Posted October 19, 2020 Share #6 Posted October 19, 2020 The camera will wear from rubbing on your clothing (especially a belt) if you carry it over your shoulder. Mine never do as I use a half case with a small bump for more security when I carry the camera. Carry one all day with a large lens like the 28 Lux and your hands will begin to get very tired! The front glass windows are more difficult to scratch but it is possible to eventually scratch them when the camera moves against a surface like a counter top. Using a camera as they were meant to be used will get it scratched! Leica can replace any part, I think - but at a cost!
