I have just started using my first T model fitted with a 45mm Sigma L mount autofocus DGDN f/2.8 lens. Now I normally use Aperture Priority setting, which can indeed be controlled from the T’s body using the relevant adjusting dial. But the lens also has an aperture control ring, so how do I transfer aperture control to the ring around the lens instead of the top dial.

If I had a non Leica lens I would set the aperture at the ring, which is how I do it on a manual lens. I would also check to see if the aperture is working from the dial, if it is you are set, I would also see if an aperture is set at the lens if it causes some restrictions. Also if you are setting it via the dial and your images are OK then don't worry about it.

I would have expected the L mount alliance to specify the correct action in this situation, rather than users to test for themselves.  After all, this is a Sigma L mount lens we are talking about, not a third-party with unknown construction, contacts and firmware.

Not sure where or how you would find the L mount specifications though.

Thanks all.  The lens has a click-stopped aperture ring marked A plus 22 thru 2.8.   But the camera screen does not respond to any manual alterations.  I mean that the last setting obtained by using the top wheel does not alter following any change of setting of the aperture ring on the lens.  The only way to alter whatever aperture is being shown on screen is by using the relevant top wheel, i.e. the aperture ring appears to have no effect.  Or does it actually work, but just does not alter the screen shown figure ? Anyone else have a Sigma ?

I doubt you can even with an adapted Leica-M lens. It is easier with a TL lens. Welcome to the forum.

The Sigma is a TL (L mount consortium) electronically coupled lens, unlike a fully manual adapted M lens.

Aperture setting using top dial is confirmed OK, and auto bracketing also functions correctly.

I have the Sigma 85mm F1.4 DG DN lens. With the exception of the focus ring, none of the lens mounted controls work in conjunction with the body - including the aperture ring.

It’s a shame that the interface between the two can’t utilise the extra controls but then again, that would add unnecessary complication which seems to go against the whole Leica ethos.

Unfortunately, its been two years since they last updated the firmware of the latest T model, TL2 and longer for earlier bodies.

The CL is up to firmware 4.0.

With Version 3.2, one of the notes says “improved” ability when using lenses with aperture rings. I’ve not owned any L mount lens with an aperture ring to know if that actually means the aperture rings now work with the CL or not. Maybe someone else here with that combination can confirm.
