I have used back-button focussibg on SL (for 4 years), SL2 (since released), S006/S3 and Nikon FF bodies without any problems. Rather the opposite... The main advantages - for me - is that you can put the focus point everywhere (with eg SL/SL2), and let the shutter do the rest - ie, to activate the shutter when you want to rake the photo(s). By combining focus and shutter you loose some time due to focus confirm before the shutter is activated. Using continuous focus, focus by the shutter button half-pressed may work. But in this case I prefer to keep the back-focus botton activated while taking photos. Different styles and habites, I believe.
