The Leica Akadamie in Australia recently ran two webinars like this  with Peter Karbe, firstly covering M lenses development and then for SL. I found them fascinating. Be warned that you will feel guilty if you ever stop your lens down whatsoever.

Geoff, did you mean to respond to this thread?

The discussion tonight is one of a series from Leica Miami, focusing on gear, but not anything like Karbe’s slide shows.

Jeff no it was just a mention of the two webinars with Peter Karbe here. The second was on the SL lenses. I have the SL2 and two of the Summicrons for it.  I found both webinars very interesting and the technical explanations informative. For example the explanation of how the new Summicrons can cope with 100mp + and that they are already at peak performance wide open.
I realise that those webinars are not the same as the one mentioned in this thread. The ones here were specifically timed for Australian evening time, although the recordings are now available I understand.

I don’t look in the M threads any longer as I have no M equipment now.

I’m well aware of the webinars; Karbe has already made the same two presentations in another location, and they.’be been discussed elsewhere on the forum... well before the ones in Australia.  This thread has zero to do with those.
 

This thread is about the latest Leica Miami YouTube ‘Camera Talk’ series (19 and counting) You commented that Karbe’s two webinars were like these (post 5). No, they’re not.

The more I know about the SL2, the more I think it could be a great fit. If I would give the Mirrorless a chance (to use for the first time EVF, IBIS, and other great features), on a budget, today I would buy the Sony A7RIV.
With a better budget, SL2 + 35 APO + a couple of Sigma Art Lenses.
With no budget limits, SL2 + Leica L mount lenses. Probably 35 + 75 + 16-35 + 90-280. 
Oh yeah.


Coming back at the RDCT youtube video, I watched the most part. I clumped my hands (by myself) when I saw the SL2 feature where if manual focus is set, pressing the shutter button, the camera was showing the DOP scale ... 👏👏👏👏 These magic details that make the difference.

David Farkas used the same top display on the S007 to set hyperfocal distance when shooting landscapes with wide angles in Iceland.  The feature carried over to the SL, then SL2.

After 45 years of using optical VFs, with over 30 of those using an M, I never liked EVF viewing and avoided all such systems.  But I bit the bullet last year and bought the SL2 (with SL 24-90, 90-280 and SL 75) as a complement to my M system (M10 and MM), and I’ve enjoyed it immensely.  Different experiences, for different use cases, but each effective and satisfying. I’m on the fence about adding the SL35, as the zoom quality is superb. (I never liked the 75 frame lines on an M, so the SL75 fills that void; while my 2 M 35mm lenses are already fine.)

Wow, a significant investment as the first step, congrats! And this is my "fear." Coming from OVF only (SLR, then DSRL, the M), I'm afraid I can be in love quickly with an EVF. And the SL2 is amazing, but it's very expensive. 
It's 2020, almost 2021, and I believe sometimes, it's interesting to embrace new technologies. We don't have to be purists. We just want to shoot.
This is the million-dollar question. Does an EVF, and/or a tilting screen, and/or an IBIS make you a better photographer? 
Let's say one uses the M for this, the SL2 for that, the DSLR for that, etc. It's legitime and fun. I guess it's okay. The point is enjoying the process as best as possible and fulfills your goals with your favorite gear. I mean, if one is "good enough" to use different systems and techniques, why don't use them, right?

No, the gear doesn’t make one a better photographer, but it may create opportunities for subject matter that would otherwise be difficult to capture, or to capture in the same way. 

I use an M with 28/35/50 focal lengths only, and always with RF.  In my film days (since the 70’s) I used multiple other systems... from 35mm to medium format to 8x10)... to complement M use.  But since I transitioned fully to digital in 2009, I restricted myself to the M. In the last few years, I considered...and tested...multiple digital systems to broaden my shooting as in my film days.  This included DSLRs, the S, the SL/2, the X1D, as well as Fuji products. After demos, and making my own prints, I landed on the SL2.  Very considered and deliberate, not some wild GAS driven adventure.  I started with the 24-90 (pre-tariff), then added a used mint 90-280 at a great price, and more recently the 75. I don’t expect magic from the gear; these are tools to use.  I still do my own printing, matting and framing, and there are still myriad ways to do that well, or not.

 I was just aiming to add something else possibly of interest to some, not detract from your topic Jeff. They are both webinars, which was all I meant by like each other. I have watched the interesting RDF one now too. The content is quite different I agree.
