I think this is the absolute best time to buy a second hand M rangefinder. So many inexpensive lenses coming out in the market from the like of 7Artisans, TTartisan, Venus Optics etc.

If it at all possible, Leica should explore introducing a cheaper rangefinder line, in the 3-4K price point.

I think they have tried exploring a cheaper line in the range of excellent M lenses (Summarit). For some reason it didn't fly. I used to have a Summarit, and although a perfect lens, I kept having an irrational itch to get a more expensive 'real' Leica lens. Maybe that was the case for many other customers as well?

As an individual buyer I think buying a secondhand rangefinder is a perfect option indeed. :)

:-k

Curious statement, poli. "More expensive" I can understand but in what way was your Summarit not a 'real' Leica lens?

If the Summarit line had been twice as expensive, and marketed as high quality, high performing compact Leica lenses (e.g., with minimal flare, no focus shift, etc), they probably would have sold like hotcakes.  Instead they were underplayed by Leica, initially without premium looking hoods and packaging, and underrated by users. Another opportunity for a business case study.
