gettons Posted September 17, 2020 Author Share #21  Posted September 17, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) A lot happened over the past day or so. Let me quickly recap. As I was not 100% confidend, I brought the lens to ApertureLeica UK for them to take a look. Turns out the lens has probably a funny story that nobody knows. That was enough for me to direct my interest into something else.  Welcome, dear visitor! Yours looks to be good. Also very clean. Not to open up a different can of worms, but the majority of these Summicrons from the 50s and 60s have haze. Hard to find one that doesn't. This is due to the glass formulation used in those days having a high heavy metal content mostly and less so from condensed lubricant as is often claimed. Lubricant condensation generally cleans up fine but etching in the coating from the acidity created by moisture condensation on these old coatings is tough. A little haze is not an issue, but might be worth doing a flashlight test to check. https://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/flashlight-test.htm that's a pity as I love the way the rigid looks like and I was thinking about getting a proper one (see my recent post here

For a newish chrome lens you would need to find a LHSA edition of the APO-Summicron. None cheap, but you will be good for life! I would agree, all Rigid Summicrons will have uncleanable haze, and anyone who pretends otherwise is kidding. Not saying it will be noticeable in photos, just depends if you can live with the fact.
