leonpro Posted August 18, 2007 Share #1 Posted August 18, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Can anyone recommend a compatible flash to use for the Digilux 3? I would like something strong enough to use as a bounce and adjust per the camera setting. Is there anything that meets this camera? Thanks for suggestions. karlitos Posted August 18, 2007 Share #2 Posted August 18, 2007 You have the choice of any of the current Metz models with the Olympus SCA adapter, plus either of the Olympus guns FL36 or FL50. I am currently using these and they function without any issues. Panasonic also make one but it is basically a re-badged FL36. And they have the nerve to want more money for it, at least in the UK. leonpro Posted August 18, 2007 Author Share #3 Posted August 18, 2007 karlitos, thanks for the suggestions. I see the Olympus and Panasonic flash models and they are selling the Panasonic for way more despite looking the same model. I wonder why.
moikle Posted August 18, 2007 Share #4 Posted August 18, 2007 I agree with karlitos. The Olympus units are of high quality and performance and I am certainly impressed with results I get especially with bounce flash. Mike
leonpro Posted August 18, 2007 Author Share #5 Posted August 18, 2007 Great. I am about to place an order of the FL-50 together with the MilaGrid BounceGrid II. I am still wondering why Panasonic has chosen to increase their FL-500 model when it looks exactly like the Olympus version. Are there any specific features built especially for our camera? Bo_Lorentzen Posted August 18, 2007 Share #6 Posted August 18, 2007 No there is no Leica version of the Olympus flashes. However the Oly flashes are very well done, I have the 36 and while being small it is a outstanding flash, however for more hardcore stuff go for the FL50 as it packs a bigger punch. I also have the older FL40 but it does not work on the Leica camera only on actual Olympus cameras. Bo My Leica scratch page - random thoughts , pictures and such. leonpro Posted August 18, 2007 Author Share #7 Posted August 18, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Why hasn't Leica officially patronized Panasonic's FL-360 and FL-500 flash for the DMC-L1? If it's the same camera, it obviously will take it fully as well. Hmm.
Riley Posted August 19, 2007 Share #8 Posted August 19, 2007 whatever applies to Olympus applies to Panasonic so take a look at these options Olympus External Flash Support

karlitos Posted August 20, 2007 Share #10 Posted August 20, 2007 Why hasn't Leica officially patronized Panasonic's FL-360 and FL-500 flash for the DMC-L1? If it's the same camera, it obviously will take it fully as well. Hmm. They probably think that the number of units they could sell would be too small. Besides, it would probably have the usual Leica mark-up (re 4/3 adapter price). and then most of us would go and buy the Oly guns anyway:) Karlitos.
