In Peter Karbes very interesting discussion of Leica M and SL lenses, he made a rather brief comment on the less than perfect MTF profile of the Summilux-SL 1.4/50mm, saying that the aberrations causing this would be software corrected in the camera but Leica did not publish software corrected MTF. I also noted that Sigma, when presetning the New Art 1.4/85, optimized for mirrorless cameras and much more compact than the DSLR Version of the same lens, said that some aberrations would need to be software optimized in order to secure the compactness and low weight.

Does anybody know if this software optimization works across the L-mount alliance? Does Panasonic optimize the Summilux-SL 1.4/50mm as Leica SL and SL2 do, or is the Sigma DG DN 1.4/85 optimized using a Leica SL or SL2, as it would be using a Sigma camera?

I recall Sean Reid may have covered on his site some of his experiences will software correction being applied or not in various L lens and L body combinations. Based on that, I'd say the answer is "it depends".
