M (typ 262) Diopter Issue

I have a +3 Diopter I use on all my M film bodies and an M8. I tried to screw in this diopter onto my M (typ 262) and it seems to be too small. In any case it does not fit. I've not seen anything indicating Leica changed the viewfinder until the M10 body. Does anyone have information on what might be the issue?

I use a -0.5 diopter and it fits both my M3 and M262 just fine. This is my second one though as I lost the first one.

Hello Robert,

I don’t know why you have run into this issue.  The eyepiece of the M10 camera was increased in size and requires a different, larger set of diopters, but the eyepiece of the M 262 is the same as the M 240.

If close to a Leica store I'd take the camera in and test if a different diopter could be mounted.  My concern would be that the threads on your camera are damaged.

Thanks Marchyman. I'm not close to a Leica store but next trip into an area that has one I'll do that.
