Hello, i just received my S3 today and i have a question regarding the battery.

I have 2 batteries that i use with the S2  and by comparing it next to the S3 battery, it has similar size but i'm not sure if my old battery for S2 can be used with the new S3 or not.

I'm a bit afraid to try since it might cause damage to the camera.

Anyone have any info on this? My local dealer said it should be compatible but he also not 100% sure and with a quick google, i find that there is only one type of battery available on leica website but the description only said that it can be used till S007.

Thank you for your responds :)

I've always understood it to be that the 14429 batteries can be used in any S camera whereas the specific battery for the 007 (14499) can't be used in the S2, S2-P or 006.

On the S3 Technical Data Sheet is states the below:-

Power Supply
Battery Leica Battery S BP-PRO1, Lithium-ion battery (7.3 V, 2300 mAh)

This is the 007 battery as the S2/006 battery is 7.4V, 2100mAh. I've always thought it strange that the newer battery doesn't have as much capacity.

Anyway, I've probably confused things even more! Having said that, doesn't a message come up on the screen if you attempt to use the wrong battery?

Over to those lucky S3 owners to answer conclusively.
