hey folks:

i have 1961 summilux 50 which i really like.  so i want something different — would an original Nokton 50mm f/1.4 or Taylor Hobson 50mm f/2 be most different from Summilux from 1961.

the dealer has both and both are in exceptional condition

havibg trouble deciding which to buy?

any thoughts on this?

thank you!

Assuming you are talking about the pre-Cosina Nokton 50/1.5 (in either LTM or Prominent mount) and the TTH 2" f/2 Anastigmat, both are double Gauss design variations - and so is the Summilux 50/1.4 v1.

If you really want *different*, try a Sonnar design (Nikkor 50/1.4 or Canon 50/1.5, for example - as an added bonus, you'll be saving some money).

Having said that, compared to the Summilux the TTH renders "more differently" than the Nokton in my subjective view.

I had a Nokton 50/1.5 on a Voigtlander Prominant which I sold on just because the camera was so annoyingly hard to use, but the lens was amazingly crisp and sharp. I'm not sure whether the Cosina version uses the same lens formulation or not. If they do, I may have to buy one.

... or just buy another Prominent version lens and an Amedeo adapter (he currently has a few for sale on eBay). And if you don't need f/1.5, the Prominent Ultron 50/2 is also a very good lens for its age, which compares favourably IMO with the Summitar and possibly even the collapsible Summicron.
