sebben Posted July 10, 2020 Share #1 Posted July 10, 2020 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Maybe these will make their way to the S system. The 90mm Thalia-T is a special lens that inherits it's dream-like essence from the vintage Leica Thumbar. When the Thambar was originally released in 1935, Leica lenses were already renowned for their exceptionally sharp rendition. So it was all the more surprising when Leitz introduced a soft focus lens which – despite being named after the Greek term ‘thambo’, meaning ‘blurred’ – gave rise to images whose romantic aesthetics are not only unmatched by any other lens to this day, but also impossible to replicate in digital post-processing. This makes the new Thalia-T an exciting counterpoint to the rest of the Thalia lenses, and allows the modern-day cinematographer to experience the unique characteristics of this classic lens; or as the Greek would say, ‘me thambose me teen omorfia tis’ – 'to be blinded by beauty.' https://www.fdtimes.com/issues/july-2020-edition/ https://www.ducloslenses.com/products/leitz-thalia-t-90mm-t2-6 Welcome, dear visitor! Stuart Richardson Posted July 10, 2020 Share #2 Posted July 10, 2020 (edited) Would be nice, but the Thalia line has been out for 3 years, including the 55mm, and in that time Leica has not brought out an S version...I still think the S3 is the last thing we will see for the S system. My guess is that since they can charge an enormous amount for the Thalia lenses, they can justify the small production runs. I think the S is not quite at that threshhold. Seems like not really a fit for the idea behind the system (highly corrected lenses all with similar character). They have their 100mm Summicron as the odd man out in that group, adding the 90mm would be a niche within an niche. Whereas in cinema there is more demand for vintage looks. It would be great to get a 55mm S lenses, however...macro or not. Edited July 10, 2020 by Stuart Richardson

It would take a lot more work to make it into an S lens, with electronic aperture and AF.
