I see on the Leica store they are offering this filter for pre-order so I assume it is a brand new product.   Aside from the obvious advantages and uses of any polarizer, how do you suppose a 6 stop filter would be useful?

Can you provide a link?  I looked at Leica Store Miami's website and it doesn't seem to be there.

A 6 stop ND filter would be useful for shooting at maximum aperture with low ISO in bright light, like direct sun.

I have a B=W -3 and -6 ND filter for both my Q2 and Noctilux.  Not something I use a lot, but good to have in the bag for when the need arises.

Thanks for your reply.   The more I think about it and with your comment, it sounds like a combo polarizer/ND filter in one.   I don't use ND filters because I don't do long exposure scenes.  So this is something I probably would not get a lot of use from since I already have and use a polarizer.

Thanks. I just pre-ordered. The combo of a 6-stop and CPL seems like a really good idea to me. Often photographing water I want to also use a CPL to remove reflections and specular highlights. Breakthrough Filters are very high quality I’m told so I expect this to be a nice addition to my filter stack.

Hmmm....now you have me thinking about getting one.  Thank you very much!!

When 2 polarisers are perpendicular, is light fully (100%) stopped?

I am referring to  "variable" NDs that several brands produce  (Tiffen , Heliopan, B+W...) with  1 to 5 or 6 or 8 stops.

I assume in these filters rotation of one polariser/the second is not permited to 90° so full occultation doesn't occur.
