biglenslittlelens Posted June 21, 2020 Share #1 Posted June 21, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi all I use an XU for surf and underwater photography using a custom housing. At first I used to think I bumped the aperture and shutter dials when swimming, but after this weekend I am sure the camera has a glitch in it. I taped the shutter to 1/2000 and aperture to F10 and leave the camera on until I get out of the surf. At home I noticed that later in the session, images were at F14 and 1/1000 , so at some point they changed. I will go back and double check the sequence, but I know that nothing was bumped as the tape is still in position. Has anyone else had settings change on them ? biglenslittlelens Posted July 13, 2020 Author Share #2 Posted July 13, 2020 A bit more investigation and definitely get different settings in exif compared to the screen. Manually set aperture to F8, shutter to 1/2000. Iso is set to Auto. Take image, and play back on the LCD and it has F11 , 1/1000. Anyone else noticed a discrepancy like this before ? Can firmware be re-installed if downloaded to reset ?
Guest JMF Posted July 13, 2020 Share #3 Posted July 13, 2020 (edited) Hi, just tried taking various shots ( in Auto ISO) with F11 and 1/2000 settings, F16 & 1/1000, F8 & 1/2000 and I never had the matching EXIF when playing the shots back on the LCD, just like you mentioned. I guess the EXIF is just an estimate similar to the EXIF given with a digital Leica M. Enjoy the surf ! Cheers, JM. biglenslittlelens Posted July 13, 2020 Author Share #4 Posted July 13, 2020 Thanks JM, at least I know I am not going mad. Happy for the exif to be an estimate on my M bodies but not this camera. Aperture changes I could tolerate, but shutter speed - i need that at 1/2000 in the surf. Pretty annoying, but at least I know its like that and can work with it knowing the limitations. cheers
biglenslittlelens Posted July 14, 2020 Author Share #5 Posted July 14, 2020 Looks like you can only use 1/2000 when the aperture is F3.5 or larger. Or i can force it if I use a high ISO ...Sigh
