Curious2 Posted May 31, 2020 Share #1 Posted May 31, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) Having just purchased a Q2 I note that the manual says the screen is protected by “Gorilla” glass that is extremely hard and scratch resistant. Yet Leica still sell a screen protector, do you think that a screen protector is necessary.

No... just to show a different point of view I do not have a screen protector on my original Q nor any other camera I own (including my phone). The only time I've ever used one was on a GPS and it wasn't to protect the screen, it was to reduce glare. That said, I never worry about resale value (I expect the camera to be worthless by the time I'm finished with it) and accept the occasional scratch and ding as part of normal use. That said, I've yet to add a scratch or ding on my 4 year old Q, at least none that I've noticed. If you worry about scratches and dings and/or care about resale value then a screen protector may be necessary for your peace of mind.

Snooopy Posted May 31, 2020 Share #6 Posted May 31, 2020 I also bought a screen protector for my Q2. The protector for a Fuji X-T3 fits on the Q2 without problems...
Trankster Posted May 31, 2020 Share #7 Posted May 31, 2020 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Yes I recommend using a glass type screen protector if you plan to "wear" your camera. I have used them for years on my Olympus, Fujifilm and now Q2 cameras. The screen protector shows a lot of scuffs after awhile. It is a lot cheaper to replace the protector that the LCD. From my experience with cell phones, gorilla glass does not offer much protection and is easily cracked. I don't mind a some wear on the camera body, but like to keep my glass lens, view finder and LCD screens pristine.
