Back Button Focusing

I've used Back Button Focusing on my SL without any issues. Yesterday I decided to use it on my original Q. It seems to work fine but during the focusing process there is a lot more noise, presumably from the motor that drives the focusing mechanism. Does anyone know if this is normal?

Further to my previous post I think I've solved the problem. I had that focusing set to AFc and so that motor was continuing to hunt once the camera had found focus. I've now switched it back to AFs and everything seems to be fine.

I don’t care for back button focusing on the Q / Q2. It’s quite different than on my Canon 5D3, which works extremely well. The difference is I want my camera to be in continuous focus (servo) mode, but I only want it hunting focus when the back button is pushed. When I release the button, focused is locked on the last location. It works fantastic. With Leica you have to keep the button pushed. I gave up and went back to using the normal shutter button. I’m not generally shooting wildlife with the Q2 so it’s okay. I do in general like the idea of separating focus from the shutter actuation.

First of all thanks for taking the trouble to respond which is greatly appreciated. I've just checked on my Q (not Q2) and I don't have to keep the back button pressed. Once focusing is achieved (I'm using AFs) it holds the focus point until you either release the shutter, or press the back button again. Maybe the Q2 is different, but not having played with one I wouldn't know.

Actually as I remember the Q and Q2 are different. Leica finally got it right on the Q, but that did not translate when they Q2 was introduced. Oh well.

For my Leica Q firmware v.3.1, the back button focusing works if I I set in Customize Control, Zoom/Lock-Button to AFL.
