D Lux 7 EVF issue

My Leica's EVF doesn't work.  I have tried toying with the diopter dial and the EVF button to no avail.  Does anyone have a suggestion?  My closest Leica dealer is an hour away!  They suggested by phone to "reset the camera" but I don't know how to do that or like the sound of it.

That is frustrating, but the advice is sound. Your Leica manual should show you how to perform a reset. It merely restores the camera to factory settings. Just make a note of any personal settings.

OK I did reset the camera and still no change on the EVF...but thanks anyway for showing me how.  Does anyone else have any suggestions?  I tried to call the corporate HQ but they are closed due to Covid 19.  Does anyone know when they will reopen?  I would like to talk to someone there before I just put the camera in the mail back to them.  BTW< I sent them an email last week and no response so far from it.

Hi, tough one to help remotely.

i assume you don’t have it connected to your laptop when you are looking at it?  If so the evf may not work.

I assume the camera is working well (other than the lack of evf) and you can use it, however you are limited to framing by using the pictures the back of the camera?

you could clean the eye sensor, between the evf and evf button.

 

what happens when you press the evf button to the image on the display on the back?

Heres a thought, buy a new or used D-Lux7, lots around,  have the dealer whom you bought the original camera from return it for repair.. When repaired, sell it.. This is what I would consider doing...     L

"what happens when you press the evf button to the image on the display on the back?" It does say EVF/auto when I press it.  If I press again, back screen goes blank.  There appear to be three settings.  I've tried them all.  On two of the settings the back screen remains lit.

I did hear back from Leica and they said to do the same thing (reset).  I told them that doesn't work and am waiting for more help.  Thanks to all who have tried to help here.
