focusing easier with zm 50/2 vs 'lux ?

Don't know but I just purchased the 50 lux and it has been a learning experience. I am getting better at focusing with it (even with the magnifier) but I am considering returning it for a 50 ZM instead. Have you liked yours?

I agree, the 50/1.4 has floating elements which mean there is more to do as you focus and I had to send mine back to be adjusted. The focussing ring should be perfectly smooth to allow to make very small adjustments but the focussing action is not as light as some Leica lenses and, as Sean says, it gets better with use.

The finder magnifier is useful here...

and was disappointed at how stiff the focus ring was at the extremes & particularly in close

happily this has eased up after a few weeks use, though it is still a bit stiff on the near focus end

I have found it very accurate to focus even wide open at its close focus limit

what surprised me most was how much this lens weighs ...I got a chrome version which I believe weighs more than the black & though I find such aesthetics a triffling matter, it does look handsome on my chrome M8

this lens renders OOF beautifully and handles specular highlights with aplomb ...I find mine shockingly sharp even wide open

it has already become one of my favorites on the M8

Sean,

You are right, I do love the zm focus ring movement. I am sending the 'lux to solms before

breaking it in!

Regards

Two things...

1) The Zeiss, of course, has more DOF wide open

2) The feel of the Zeiss focus ring movement (and related connections) may just suit you better. The Leica lens may also need to break in a bit.

Cheers,

Sean

Mark,

I too am sending it to solms. I am sure once corrected and used, it might get better

over time.

Regards

Arthur,

I am glad that it is working well for you. I guess I have to put mine thru the

( what seems almost the norm ) of having solms look after this lens and the M8.

I don't know why they need my M8 along with it though?

Best.
