Hello - I purchased my new Q2 a few days ago.

To make it story short, I downloaded the free FOTOS app on my iPhone.

When I connect via BT and Wi-Fi, it takes almost 2 mins to establish a connection (my phone is next to the camera during this)

Then when it finally connects, the app shows everything on the SD card (the photos taken from my Canon as well) and its so far taken 11 mins and still havent able to show me a preview of the photos.

Another thing, it does not arrange images taken most recently to show at top. Everything is randomly mixed!

Is that a common issue? Does FOTOs Pro app solve this slow read speed.

The download of a JPG file was equally slow.

My Q2 is on Ver 2.0 and my SD card is UHS-1

Thank you!

Hi MyNewLeica
i don't have a IPhone but i heard of problems/slowness with the IPhone.
Do a search here and you will find several treads about this issue and if you did not already updated to firmware Version 2, do it!
However, downloading the photos from tha camera is not particularly fast, not even on Android,
but consider to download only the JPG files and even they are between 8 and 10 MB each.
I bought a SanDisk Extreme pro USB-C card reader to download big numbers of DNG files from the UHD-II SD-Card as the laptops card reader is too slow.
You can either use a Apple Thunderbolt card reader or the SanDisk i have
You should use also a UHS-II memory card, they are considerable faster than UHS-I

Hi MyNewLeica

I also have a Q2. Had it since Firmware 1.0, when it really did not like to connect to the Fotos app on my iPhone at all. Would fail 4 out of 5 tries. After updating to Firmware 2.0 it seems to connect easier and faster (more chance of a successful connection) but pictures are still jumbled up anyway. I also shoot in RAW most of the time and did not want to pay for the premium version of the app so I got a lightning SD card reader from Apple instead, which can be used with a UHS-II SD card for very fast direct import into Lightroom mobile on my iPhone. Have not used the Fotos app since.

Thank you Chris

Here is what I did to make the process faster:

My SD card had 628 photos mostly taken from my Canon and Sony cameras.

It appears that FOTOs app gets slower if there are other camera files on SD card, so i formatted the card though the Q2.

Now as you said, the JPG files are downloaded much faster.

I would never install an SD card into a camera with photos from another camera without immediately formatting it. I would think you’re asking for some malfunction in the file organization on the card. Potential loss of images. Canon does not structure a card like Leica, would be my strong assumption.

Thanks nuc001

given that this is a premium priced item, its a shame wifi downloading sucks.

Yea, but its only different directories on the card. Not sure if there is a difference on binary level.

I have no idea if the binary is different. Good luck with it however you choose to operate.
