One more advantage for the Visoflex as I have recently discovered is when using lens adapters which do not have rangefinder coupling. None of the adapters I have searched for, support RF coupling at all. I can now see a more than practical use for this device and a sheer need to use an old favorite Zeiss 50 f1.2 on the M10M. Thanks for all the input above, I will be purchasing very soon.

I mostly use my M10 and my M10M to shoot landscapes and the 24mm f 2.8 lens is one of my favorites.   I normally focus with the coincidence rangefinder and then compose with the Visoflex 020.    With that approach I avoid surprises of unintended things getting in the corners or my composition.   I like to tag my photos with GPS location and the Visoflex does a decent job of that.

All the advantages and disadvantages are already mentioned, wouldn't abandon mine BUT don't know whether it is the firmware update I did this morning or the Visoflex messing things up in my M10M... Had to take out the battery several times to reset the camera for things to work again... Anyone else having issues with the Visoflex on the M10M?

Except the added bulk, and the power consumption, I really love this Visoflex 020 viewfinder.  No overheating problem for me.

A great advantage is that one can review the shots with better details than the rear screen, and beeing more concentrated on the shot. Also nice to see the effect of a color filter you may add on the lens.

@kegonI found a weird behaviour when changing the measuring method to spot  directly on the screen you get when pressing the ok button on my M10M (firmware 2.12.8.0). Better use the menu (menu button) than this shortcut.

I wish the viewfinder could be automatically powered off as soon as the eye is not in contact with the finder. An active EVF certainly drains the battery when not used. There is a proximity sensor on the finder, but I didn't manage to find the setting to activate this feature 😭. Did someone manage to find how to activate an auto OFF mode, or does it need a firmware upgrade ?

Hi @jcm0 Thank you very much! Though Spot metering is my default anyway... I am on the same firmware version you are. And yes, the Visoflex drains the battery faster than the rear monitor, but as you say, it helps focusing on the picture.

Yes, that would be a good idea. I also think that in the last 4 years the technic improved and I would love to see Leica with an improved viewfinder.

My EVF 020 does exactly this. When I remove my eye, it turns off. I haven't adjusted any settings. Is your firmware the latest version? I don't know if there was a firmware to update this but I would start there and the instruction manual.

I'll double check my unit to ensure I am not misremembering (I hardly use the 020).

I have been using my EVF 020 on M10M this afternoon.  At default setting with LV active on the rear screen, lifting the camera up to the eye turns the EVF on and rear screen off and vice-versa i.e. the proximity sensor at work.  With EVF/Display Control/LV Screen Target set to EVF, the rear screen stays blank and everything is view through the EVF - but as you say, the proximity sensor is inactive.  For my style of photography I turn LV off between shooting opportunities - and hope I'm quick enough to reactivate it when the next opportunity arises!

Also, as I have just discovered, setting LV to EVF-only means I no longer inadvertently re-position the enlargement block (and hence metering field) into the bottom left corner!  😱

May I ask, did you experience any issues using the EVF? My M10M gets unresponsive when I use it for a while.

No, but in between photo opportunities I was turning LV off.

Hi,

Thanks for your answer. It may depends on the settings you use for the way you want to use the EVF. I use the latest version of the firmware (2.12.8.0) and my EVF settings are:

EVF/Display Control>Play Screen Targer> Auto  :  Allow me to review my shots using the EVF (Rear screen display, switch automatically to EVF as soon as EVF is close to my eye)

EVF/Display Control>LV Screen Target>EVF :  Liveview is on EVF, not rear screen

EVF/Display Control>Auto Review Screen Target> Auto : Show the last shot on EVF if my eye is close to the EVF, then switch automatically to the rear screen if I get my eye off the EVF to look at the rear screen.

What are your settings ? If this is usefull to you, you are welcomed to try mines and confirm the behavior you get. Thank you :)

Regards.

Hi,

Thank you for your answer. Seems the only solution for now is to turn OFF/ON LV using the LV button.

Regards.

Hi,

I got a weird behavior once: the EVF screen was complety blank - I mean white (it was not a previous image), and I needed to take the EVF off and put it back on the camera to make it work again. That white EVF problem appeared right after power on + LV button.
