Stefanovt Posted March 28, 2020 Share #1  Posted March 28, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) The previous SL offered the possibility to use a Log profile while filming in 120fps and the SL2 was supposed to offer the same. Unfortunately this is not available, making the 180fps almost useless; the videostyle offered do not offer a difference in style in my camera. The STD, VIV and NAT are éxactly the same. So not even a flat profile is available when not filming on Log.  This is a problem as the dynamic range in STD is very low. Highlights blow out or darks are without any information.  Who is experiencing the same or thinks this will be solved in a future firmware?
Advertisement Posted March 28, 2020 Posted March 28, 2020 Hi Stefanovt, Take a look here 180FPS & Videostyles. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
tommydom Posted March 28, 2020 Share #2  Posted March 28, 2020 I did some video recording last week and found that for the styles - like you - they all looked the same. I found that once a style was set, additional adjustments could be made, including saturation, sharpness, and contrast. So, that is the way I did 120fps (and 150fps) for a couple of test recordings. BTW, this was all recorded at full HD as the other formats were not able to record to my SD cards (my Atomos set up was not with me, so I was limited to just full HD). Proceed to Main Menu 2 -> Video Style -> Video Style Settings to make adjustments to any of the styles on the menu list. I did note that the settings once adjusted did make a little difference. Stefanovt Posted March 28, 2020 Author Share #3 Â Posted March 28, 2020 Hi Tommy, I did the same, but the difference is so minimal that it does not even matter. In the 8-bit recording variant there is no log and now also no decent flat profile. This is mandatory to be able to film at least a little higher dynamic range. The STD film style has to much style baked into the file and is just not working; highlight blown out, no dynamic range and blacks are crushed with no possibility to retrieve detail. In other camera's there is a large difference between a standard profile and a flat profile. Or they offer a log profile (yes with less quality than in a 10-bit recording). For a camera in a higher price range, this should be an absolute minimum!
tommydom Posted March 28, 2020 Share #4 Â Posted March 28, 2020 Agreed. One thing I think is behind the challenge of recording Log on camera is the ability of both the camera processing power and the SD card ability to record and keep up. With the SD card, there is a huge amount of variability which is why I think that the higher quality formats are not available for in-camera recording. I purchased an external monitor/recorder for the higher quality formats, Log included, and can say that everything works very well in that setup both in the SL and the SL2. If you need that level of video, the external monitor/recorder is essential. Tommy.
Stefanovt Posted March 28, 2020 Author Share #5 Â Posted March 28, 2020 Hi Tommy, I use a Ninja Atomos V to record. Unfortunately the camera just does not allow a HDMI output at 120fps with a different picture profile or a log function. In comparison to other camera's this is a very big downside.
