I have a M9 mono with a brand new sensor. Then the M10 Mono came out. I know there are those who love the M9 ccd sensor I am one of them. I think it's beautiful.

I have never used any of the other Mono's. I have an M10 and love it.

So I'm thinking do I want to go to the M10 Mono.

Has anyone here compared the look of the two cameras. Just the look, I get the resolution part. I'm just wondering about the vibe of the images.

The new Mono has a lot to offer, form factor is a big one so I can see reasons to upgrade.

All thoughts ar appreciated.

Thanks, Chris

I briefly owned a M9M, but unfortunately had to send it back due to two dead rows of pixels, despite the fact that the sensor had been replaced last year.  So after returning it, I couldn't wait to shoot in mono and grabbed a M10M earlier this month.  I've had it for 3 weeks and absolutely love it.  I do have to push and pull the files a bit more to go for the look I'm after compared to the M9Ms, which required just a little bit of post-processing.  Overall it was true that if you pushed your ISO to 1600 ish or above, the grain from the CCD sensor appeared more film-like.  The M10M definitely has a more digital feel to it.  I love the look of each, but if I were forced to choose, I'd pick the M10M based on its higher-ISO performance and the fact that it handles exactly as the M10 does.

Do what I did. I bought the M10M a few months ago, but kept the M9M that I've owned from when it first came out and on through three annoying sensor replacements. For what you can get for a M9M I personally don't think it's worth selling because it's imaging, even compared to it's new "brother", is still wonderful, unique even and worth keeping.....But for it's handling, ISO flexibility, near silent shutter, resolution and the M10 body platform the M10M is an extraordinarily good piece of kit. I like them both equally for different reasons.

The M9M is an older camera now and I'm sure that parts and service will begin to become difficult within say 5 years or less. Digital cameras, digital anything for that matter, do not have the useful life span of their analogue forebears, so I would just keep and enjoy the M9M for as long as it can feasibly be used but get and appreciate the M10M too.
