KM-25 Posted August 10, 2007 Share #21 Posted August 10, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) With all due respect for what he contributes to this forum in the form of aid to those who do not have a direct professional relationship with Leica: Can we please move on to another subject? The whole recent trend of the Ken Rockwell, Phil Askey and other internet heros is in my opinion, a very unhealthy one.
Advertisement Posted August 10, 2007 Posted August 10, 2007 Hi KM-25, Take a look here Guy M.: they are talkin about you ... AGAIN. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
sean_reid Posted August 10, 2007 Share #22 Posted August 10, 2007 I'm not sure what an Internet hero is but I don't think that people who write about photography online can be lumped into one group any more than one can generalize about freelance photographers or, say, color film. Ken Rockwell and Phil Askey are two very different people. Writing for the web ensures no more commonality than does writing for print and what Guy contributes here has nothing to do with Askey or Rockwell. wparsonsgisnet Posted August 10, 2007 Share #23 Posted August 10, 2007 Ok, I confess. He's my hero.
Guest guy_mancuso Posted August 10, 2007 Share #24 Posted August 10, 2007 Sean thanks and i agree with your last sentence also better to just let stuff like this die down than promote it any further. the bottom line for me is I help folks here and they understand i will be there if they need the help. i really don't need that attention outside of this forum which i belong because of the quality of forum members, this is a class place and reason I am here along with many others for the same reasons. Let's move on to more important issues that concern all of us.

All of them are paid to talk and review products or gain revenue from it. i get nothing in any way shape or form. I am not comparable to them in any way so your comment really makes no sense. Guest tummydoc Posted August 10, 2007 Share #26 Posted August 10, 2007 May I just say that I don't see where any smear of our guy Guy came from the person alleged to have done so. All I can see he said was that Guy isn't unbiased, and who of us would have the gall to maintain that we are unbiased about Leica, all the while sitting here chatting on a forum specifically dedicated to the marque? I for one am forever grateful that Guy is unabashedly biased in favour of the M8. His infectious proactive attitude spurred me to try a third M8 after the first two died in succession. I figured if someone who makes his living at it thinks it's worthwhile persevering, and especially with him (and Sean and Jamie and Sandy and John Milich and others) on the frontlines, it was surely worth the risk to dive in a third time, and so glad that I did. (Now watch, because I said that my M8 will now suddenly spontaneously combust )
stunsworth Posted August 10, 2007 Share #27 Posted August 10, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Vinay, the post I objected to was... "Doug, FWIW, Guy M. has some business connection with Leica. He will not divulge the details of it. It is similar to Erwin P.'s case. Even if they have something genuinely good to say because of their experience/knowledge, it will not be 'unbiased'." Last word on this from me. arthury Posted August 10, 2007 Author Share #29 Posted August 10, 2007 You get our eternal gratitude - isn't that something? You get our eternal gratitude ... And, it's an eternal gratification to receive our eternal gratitude, Guy. Leicaly yours, Art Yeo

Last word on this from me. Guy does not have a business connection with Leica. The poster was mistaken and, apparently, talking out of his hat. Guest tummydoc Posted August 10, 2007 Share #31 Posted August 10, 2007 And it was made by a third person, not the one whose much more benign remarks on that thread were seized upon rather transparently to satisfy a personal grudge.

Huh?...I'm lost having not read the DPReview thread but this does sound like a soap opera all right. Who's on first? Cheers, Sean
