Is the way an image can be rescued.  First outing with my M10M on Thursday afternoon, I stepped into a churchyard to photograph some of the headstones. As I did so a squirrel ran up a nearby tree then paused on a branch.  The tree was very heavily backlit and the squirrel almost indistinguishable against the branches. Normally I would not have even thought about trying to photograph such a scene, but with a new camera in hand...  What made it even less advisable was that I had my 1967 35mm Summaron f2.8 on the camera, but nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Below is the original - a hopeless case!  But what if I tried to rescue something?  Cropped to 1:1 and adjusted in LR CC, one can actually see the chubby little chap. :)

I think the engineers at Leica knew what they were doing when they settled on 41MP for the M10M sensor.  A sensor this size and with this level of capability was made for those who want to make large size fine prints with stunning image quality.

Perhaps it was Leica's way of giving all of us a subtle nudge toward printmaking, or at least opening that door...

More likely the marketers keeping up with the MP race, which seems imperative in a declining industry that must distinguish product from phone cameras.  The M10M (and forthcoming M10R) sensors derive from the S3, a necessary way to economize and spread the costs. This started for Leica back when the M240 sensor sprung forth from the then higher MP S007 (credit to Nicci’s posts).
