Apologies if this isn't the right place to start this discussion, but I was a Leica Q owner and I've recently converted to the Q2 system, so I guess this is the forum I'm most comfortable in.

I've been a Flickr Pro member for probably 10 years or so and have almost 13,000 photos on it: https://www.flickr.com/photos/malbooth/

There have been a lot of changes of ownership in the last few years and even though I understand the costs of maintaining it as a free or cheap service, it is now tending towards the more expensive end of the spectrum. I'm now being offered two years Pro membership for just under US$112. I don't see a great deal of value in that offering now.

I think I liked the idea of it as a photography community in the old days and I've always tried to properly describe, tag, geo-locate and license (mostly CC BY-NC-SA) my images.

I already maintain a full resolution backup of all of my images, so Flickr isn't really a backup service for me and I mostly upload only 3000x2000 JPGs.

So, I guess I'm after some advice from others about alternatives or whether I should just press on for another couple of years with Flickr?

I'm not at all keen on sharing a lot of photos on Facebook, Google doesn't seem to have any community and I'm not terribly impressed with 500px, 1X, SmugMug or Ello. I guess photoblog.com might be OK, but I don't know a lot about it.

Thanks for reading.

What about Adobe Behance, it is free with your Cloud subscription.

I used Behance a few years back but thought it was more like a portfolio service for people either wanting to showcase their work professionally or sell it. It is in my CC sub, so will investigate again. Thanks.

If you have been a Flickr member for many years and built up a large circle of friends, got many comments and likes etc, I would recommend you to think twice before leaving all this.

Yes, I am carefully considering this. I won't completely withdraw if I don't re-subscribe, but will have to greatly cull back my images to stay on the free sub.

I mean you can share albums from Lightroom. Look in the ... toolbar, share and invite menu item in mobile Lightroom.

I have looked at it in the mobile Lightroom app, but don't think it is what I am after. I also don't really want to get locked into Adobe subs forever.

I am on the same point,
i have a Flickr Pro subscription where i uploaded allmost 800 photos, but i would have to streamline them as there are some i would to eliminate.
Flicker would be a "inexpensive" or free solution, but i am not too impressed and feel that Flivker is a bit more a parking lot than a active photo comunity.

I did not found any other solution than buy a domain and make my own website where i present the best of them, but thats not a comunity.

I never heard of PhotoBlo, but will have a look at it.

Smugmug is somehow easy to use as LR smart folders can feed the smart galleries you build there. So basically if you want a picture to go online, you just add whatever keyword you decided and there is nothing else to do. Of course it comes with a yearly subscription.

The funny thing that happened - as I just started to put pictures online a month ago - I did not understand all the features the first day, and inadvertently left the shopping thing ON.

Next day "I" had sold some mugs and some prints and half of the yearly fee was already paid for. Turned off the shopping thing but found it funny.
