Advertisement Posted January 25, 2020 Posted January 25, 2020 Hi Andrejb, Take a look here Leica D-Lux 109 vs X2?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
bandrews Posted January 30, 2020 Share #2 Posted January 30, 2020 As a P&S, I’d suggest 109. X2 creates lovely photos but operation can be a bit slow. 109 has a smaller sensor but does have zoom. However if you want “Made in Germany” build quality, go with the X2.
robert blu Posted July 11, 2020 Share #3 Posted July 11, 2020 I still use ssometimes my Leica x1which I thnk not much different from the x2. Times ago I gifted my wife a D.109 which I sometimes use. Both camera gives excellent image quality. The x1is much slower and with a fixed lens is not very flexible. But is much simpler to use. Easy menu and no need to learn a 300 pages manual to use it! The D-109 has many more options, video included if of interest for you. The zoom lens is good and allows you a versatile shooting style. The main problem with this camera is the overcomplicated n menu, many pages each with many subpages. But this can be solved once you set your preferences. The real problem we both found is the small dimension of the camera filled with many buttons. If by accident you push a butto without realizing it (because of the small size) you can have problems...during a journey the camera was set to raw+jpg but my wife ended with only jpgs becasue touched something unwanted. Of course if you are experienced enough you can understan it, but...always disturbing! Anyway I repeat image quality very good. A common problem for both cameras is the retractile lens with the time some dust will enter and if goes to the sensor you cannot clean itself. You need to send the camera to Leica. I sent recently my wife's D.109 and it was covered by the three years warranty (in Italy not sure in other countries). In the same time I sent the x1 as well for the same problem and it costed me 160 EUR but it was after about 10 years of use! I hpoe my experience can help you in your decision. DaveMo Posted July 11, 2020 Share #4 Posted July 11, 2020 I have both the D.109 and the X2. As a carry about camera the 109 works really well and produces excellent images. The X2 is a different camera all together and gives you the feel of shooting with a Leica. The X2 menus are simple and operation is more like using a film camera. I have the VF2 on mine so it becomes quite bulky if it's left on permanently I enjoy using both but for ease of operation the X2 wins but the zoom on the 109 makes it quite compelling too. Let us know what decision you make.
