The interesting question will be whether the prices go back down when the tariffs are lifted...

That wouldn’t be unprecedented, either because of currency changes, competitive considerations or otherwise.  As but one example, S bodies started high (new US retail), went down significantly, then back up significantly.  There are routine price distinctions between countries, with and without various tax/fee requirements.   The real wildcard now is the US Administration; changes can happen at any moment, for better or worse.

One Leica USA dealer raised the price of at least one in-stock M lens, the Summaron-M 28mm, on or about the day the tariff took effect, even though one would think that lenses already in the USA would not be subject to the tariff. This effectively removed this lens from consideration as my first Leica lens to be purchased as a new item. (My several Leica-M lenses, to date, have been bought pre-owned.)

That is indeed sketchy. Two reputable Leica dealers told me recently that only the newly arrived Leica gear would be subject to the increase. Soho and Miami. Both are excellent dealers in my experience.

Hopefully it wasn't one of those two that told you that!

Agreed.

Also, if Leica sees a big enough sales decline they would lower the prices (supply & demand). The privately owned brick and mortar Leica dealers may feel the brunt of this, but I am hoping not. For them I think the 10% spread across all products was the better move.

I don't see the tariffs going away any time soon.
