norm_snyder Posted August 5, 2007 Share #1 Posted August 5, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) In mounting my 35mm C-V Nokton [Factory modified for M8 w/ shortened shroud] on my [newly replaced] M8, I noticed that the paint on the shroud adjacent to the rear element has worn, exposing bright metal. As I've taken care in mounting and unmounting, and I don't set the lens down on it's bottom surface, where could the flaked-off paint have gone but into the body of my [now departed] M8. Before I start using this on the new camera, and get flecks of black matte paint on the sensor or into the shutter assembly, I thought I'd check to see how others are faring. I recall that the original version of the lens rubbed at infinity with something in the interior of the camera. Is this something anyone else has noted? Terry? Sean? Iron Flatline Posted August 5, 2007 Share #2 Posted August 5, 2007 I got the same lens, and a tiny bit of scraped off paint. No problems so far, I'll keep an eye open for it.
russell Posted August 6, 2007 Share #3 Posted August 6, 2007 I have on my 28mm Ultron as well. Black paint flake(scratch?) on the rear lens shroud. I'm not worrying about it.

Norm Snyder Hi Norm, I haven't seen that. To confirm that you have the correct shroud, take a look inside the "throat" of the M8. There are two slight plastic tabs that protrude from the walls of the chamber. See of either of them show signs of rubbing, etc. If the lens easily focuses to infinity, you should have the right shroud. Cheers, Sean
norm_snyder Posted August 7, 2007 Author Share #5 Posted August 7, 2007 Thanks everyone, for your responses. Sean--The shroud on the back of the lens is the version which is "stepped", to clear the internals of the M8. Focusing is smooth to infinity, with no binding. The internals of the new M8 aren't blemished, because I was reluctant to mount this lens. I suppose that I will just go ahead and use it, clean the sensor as needed, and enjoy what has become a lens of which I'm rather fond. Worrying about nothing? Or just finding an excuse to get more optics? Norm
