Mark_Schretlen Posted November 14, 2007 Share #41 Posted November 14, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) As mentioned, prior to SDHC, speed ratings for Secure Digital cards was left to the manufacturers to self-impose, which resulted in some pretty inaccurate claims and often wide performance differences between similarly rated cards. In addition, one tactic many manufacturers used was to labeled their cards based on loosely defined “read” rather than “write” performance results which served to benefit the manufacturer by confusing the consumer. Geoff, Perhaps you can clarify this for me. As I understand it, the non-SDHC 4gb cards that currently work in the M8 will not work when the M8 firmware goes SDHC ... but the 2gb non-SDHC will work fine. Is this correct? Advertisement Posted November 14, 2007 Posted November 14, 2007 Hi Mark_Schretlen, Take a look here M8 and 4GB SD Cards. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
4season Posted November 14, 2007 Share #42 Posted November 14, 2007 I too am awaiting SDHC support, since most cards grearer than 2GB are now in this format. The SD card spec only covers capacities up to 2 gigabytes, so any 4 gig non SDHC cards you may find are really kind of a non-standard, and compatibility with future devices will be iffy. So far, the prices I'm seeing on SDHC cards are much higher per gigabyte, and higher capacities won't spare you the hassles of removing the baseplate: IME, the 2 gigabyte mark is about when the battery needs to be changed anyhow.
