Leica Q=Electronic Shutter function

Hi,

 

In the menu of my Q, there is an Option for Electronic shutter and the choices to choose from are On, Off or Extended.

 

This is not explained in the manual, or at least I cannot find it in mine.

 

What do these options mean?
