Leitz may perhaps not take advantage of this by correcting all faults in camera like other producers certainly do, but the lens I.D. provided enables software producers to do so. hence I stand by my original statement ad the fuction of the chip. No italian flag and minimal vignetting on my unchipped Leitz M and R optics as well as the corresponding Zeiss products. BUt the original prices certainly did cover proper design , assaembly and quality control. As opposed to one , recent and modern Nikon lens I have where distortion is quite pronounced if a neutral rawfile developer is used. p.
